Lithology
Lithology is a boutique Napa Valley winery in St. Helena dedicated to limited-production, terroir-driven wines from some of the region’s most distinguished vineyards. Founded by Alejandro Bulgheroni, the winery takes its name from the study of rocks, reflecting its focus on geology, soil, and vineyard character.
Lithology Winery in Napa Valley
Since 2014, Lithology has produced small-lot wines designed to express the character of individual Napa Valley vineyard sites. Its historic stone winery on Meadowood Lane sits at the base of Howell Mountain in St. Helena, where mineral-rich volcanic soils and a protected microclimate shape the estate vineyard.
Alejandro Bulgheroni created Lithology with a vision of producing precise, site-driven Napa Valley wines. The winemaking team is led by winemaker and general manager Matt Sands, with each wine developed to emphasize vineyard identity, structural balance, and aging potential.
Lithology Cabernet Sauvignon and Wine Portfolio
The Lithology wine portfolio centers on Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, supported by a small selection of white wines. Representative bottlings include:
- Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
- Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Franc
- Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
- Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
- Alejandro Bulgheroni Cabernet Sauvignon
- Lithology Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
- Lithology Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
- Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay
- Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
The Alejandro Bulgheroni Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery’s flagship cuvée, created through careful selection of the most compelling barrels from each vintage. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc complement the single-vineyard collection with broader expressions of the region.
Single-Vineyard Napa Valley Wines
Lithology’s single-vineyard program highlights the differences among Beckstoffer To Kalon, Dr. Crane, and Las Piedras. Each vineyard contributes its own combination of soil, microclimate, fruit character, tannin structure, and mineral expression.
Rather than treating these vineyard names simply as prestigious labels, Lithology presents them as distinct expressions of Napa Valley terroir. This approach allows collectors and wine professionals to compare how Cabernet Sauvignon changes across several of the region’s most recognized sites.
Lithology Wine Trade Positioning
Lithology belongs in the limited-production and collectible Napa Valley wine category. Its combination of vineyard provenance, small-lot production, an experienced winemaking team, and a clearly defined geological identity gives the winery strong differentiation within the premium Cabernet Sauvignon market.
For importers, distributors, fine-wine retailers, restaurant programs, and collectors, Lithology offers a focused Napa Valley portfolio built around renowned vineyards, limited availability, cellar potential, and the individual character of each site.
